Backend Engineer - Ads Measurement

You’ll collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, external partners (such as advertisers, agencies, and third-party measurement providers), and other ad platform teams to design scalable backend services, data pipelines, and APIs that power precise and trustworthy ad measurement. You’ll contribute to high-impact projects like building real-time attribution systems, enabling cross-device and cross-platform measurement, supporting incrementality testing, and integrating with industry standards.</div> <h3>Who You Are</h3><div> <li>Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power Spotify's advertising systems</li> <li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams (frontend, product, data, and other backend teams) to deliver end-to-end features</li> <li>Own and improve performance, reliability, and observability of backend systems</li> <li>Contribute to system architecture, technical strategy, and design reviews</li> <li>Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code in a modern backend stack</li> <li>Participate in on-call rotation and ensure smooth operation of production systems</li> <li>Drive technical discussions, mentor peers, and support a culture of continuous improvement</li> </div> <h3>What You'll Do</h3><div> <li>You are a highly motivated and communicative engineer who is passionate about collaborating on difficult engineering problems.</li> <li>You have 4+ years of experience as a backend engineer, with strong proficiency in Java and a demonstrated comfort working within backend service architectures.</li> <li>You are a strong advocate for code quality, testing, and automation</li> <li>You have experience with distributed systems, high-volume services, production deployment, big data processing technologies, and system design</li> <li>You are familiar with APIs, stakeholders, and agile methodologies</li> <li>Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles</li> <li>Understanding of end-user experience, quality, and modern engineering practices</li> <li>Collaborative attitude with a strong desire to work with others and make a difference</li> <li>Believes data is a powerful tool for informed decision-making</li> <li>You have experience with data pipelines or Scala (a plus, not required)</li> </div> <h3>Where You'll Be</h3><div> <li>We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be on the West Coast of the North American region as long as we have<a href="https://lifeatspotify.com/being-here/work-from-anywhere"> </a>a work location.</li> <li>Working hours? The team operates in EST time zones for collaboration.&nbsp;</li> </div> <div>The United States base range for this position is $132,949.00 - 189,927.00 plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, a monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays.
